Thanks for Nothing most of '06

I hate to be keep banging on our guys but damn. We got guys going pro that couldn't have started for Vandy. The recruiting class of 2006, which was considered one of the greatest in Georgia history, is evacuating Athens quicker than KA's on GA/FLA weekend. Reshad Jones is more than likely adding his name to the draft board. The Arena League is taking a hiatus so I'm guessing hes going to try the NFL for some reason but either way I could not have picked one guy I'd rather see leave. He was a showboating, trash talking, thug who couldn't have tackled Roddy Jones if you would have put both of them in a steel stall. He sucked and was a solid reason why our defense was completely inept at times. I'd much rather see a John Knox out there who's going to bust his ass and just get beat than a guy who has all the talent in the world but is a combination of Terrell Owens and Eric Brown.

At times I can be called a "Disney Dawg." But as I see almost everyone coming back for the National Champs, Tech beating us in everything, our basketball program not actively participating the past 6 years outside of Atlanta, and the always reliable woman's basketball team having the worst year in program history, I think Mickey would even have a hard time smiling right now.

You had me until "Georgia: 2009 SEC East Champions." Are you referring to the Gym Dawgs?

I agree with you on Reshad Jones though. Between the shoulder bumps and personal fouls he was becoming more of a problem than a solution in the secondary. I remember him snatching a ball out of the air in his first G-Day game and thinking this kid is going to be something special. Unfortunately he never really materialized. Him entering the draft is almost laughable at this point in his career.

This does make me wonder a couple of things: 1) First Asher, now Reshad- is any of this Willie's fault? I think so. 2) Maybe CMR is finally laying down the law and some people just don't like it so they're leaving town (I hope this is the reason).

All I know is Willie's job is getting tougher by the day and Oklahoma State's offense is already licking its chops.

1: I'd like to take this time to congratulate the powerful SEC on being the first BCS conference to ever have 0 teams ranked in the USA Today Top 25 Coach's Poll.

2: 10-6 Asher.

3: I still don't love Matty S.

4: I still love Moreno.

5: I think 16 opens up Spring practice as the #1 Free Safety.

16 is definitely a white Thomas Davis there's no doubt about it. He's also wearing the number of champions so he's got that going for him.

Post of the year so far. Agreed on every point.

Wow, just wow.

I used to love to check out this blog, to read what I thought was a similiar love for our alma mater & a team for which we all are fanatics.

I asked the other day why all the hating on this blog lately? I questioned why you would post a pic of Matt with no explanation, just a desparaging remark in the caption? I'm just surprised at the reactions here lately to our players's personal decisions.

Its one thing to criticise a coach - someone who gets paid to do his job & has failed miserably at times. I most ceratinly have expressed my frustration for Willie the last few seasons. But its quite another to bash 18-22 year old kids for making a decision you don't agree with. I would bet my right arm that many if not all of you guys would bolt from Athens early in a heartbeat if you were talented enough to earn an offer of the type of money ANY of these guys will make! Even if you deny that, which I expect, where do you get off bashing a guy that's bled for your team for years??? I can say with confidence NONE of you know any of them well enough to suggest what's in their best interests, their family's best interests, or the team's best interests for that matter.

It just absolutely baffles me and is so disheartening to read how ignorantly judgmental & arrogantly crass some of your statements have been. I liken to the douchebaggery of so-called fans that have the audacity to boo our players on Saturdays. With "fans" and "support" like this, no wonder they don't wanna come back for more.

Honestly, I'm really sad that you've chosen to act in such a disrespectful way to a University & team you supposedly love. And I pray Matt, Knowshon, Reshad, Asher, and any other recruit, current player, or coach never reads what you guys have written. And if they do, I ceratinly pray they realize this isn't indicative of the feelings of the majority of the fanbase & supporters.

GO DAWGS!!!

Oh, and for a little balance in reporting & in defense of Reshad.... did any of you guys bother to notice he finished the 2008 season 2nd in tackles with 76? Did you bother to do your homeowrk and see that he had 5 picks on the season, the last one in the Cap 1 Bowl, and was the only member of the secondary to get a pick?

Obviously not. Best of luck to Reshad for a great future and every blessing God has to offer!

Here's a phrase my Daddy taught me many years ago. You'd do yourselves some good to say it once in a while as well.... "Once a Dawg, Always a Dawg. How sweet it is!"

GO DAWGS!!!

JJH4 and PMac, you guys better apologize. You've totally pissed off the natives.

I don't write about football outside of 3v3 so I'm assuming complete immunity.

Whoa whoa whoa. When did we start writing books for comments? Damn. My friends, the comment above is the clear definition of a "Disney Dawg." Always gotta look at all of the positives don't we? Well that's not reality. What you are seeing is frustration, not hate. You honestly can't say you weren't upset with Reshad's crappy performance during the Tech game. I'd keep going, but I gotta stop before I get nailed for doing this at work. And no, I'm not about to apologize. If viewers don't like what is posted here, there are plenty of other places to read about the Dawgs.

Slic Ric said...

I tend to agree with the other half of 434. Things are being said out of frustration, not hate. When you love something as much as we love Georgia athletics, it is very easy to get caught up in the wide range of emotions that accompany such passion. These emotions can be good and bad.

Most Georgia fans are venting right now over the disappointing '08 season. I know we still won 10 games but based on the expectations this TEAM did not perform up to their capabilities for whatever reason. This blog is our place to vent and share our opinions. Sure there are criticisms of players and coaches but that's to be expected. When they do well we give praise. It's a two way street. Even the healthiest of relationships (and my relationship with UGA football is unhealthy at best) have rocky times. This does not mean we like Georgia's teams and players any less.

Take Rod Battle for example, honorary Horsemen and my friend. I've bought Rod so many drinks downtown and we've had some great times together, but I'll be the first to tell you (even though I defend him constantly) he didn't have a very good season at DE. In fact, he kind of sucked. This doesn't mean I like him any less though.

Bottom line: despite what is said here now or in the future, everyone of us, whether it be in Stillwater, Ok. or in front of a tv/radio will be watching September 5th when the Dawgs take on Okie St. Hell, me and McCarthy are talking about taking off work to drive to Athens for signing day. I'm sick and tired of this bullshit about "well you're not a true Georgia fan" for one reason or another.

The fact is, despite the disappointing season, the early draft entries, the off-season arrests, Willie Martinez etc. we will be there every step of the way. Nobody is abandoning ship. This is the kind of unconditional love many relationships clamor for but never truly attain but for me (and I'm sure everyone else) it's till death do us part with UGA sports, through good times and bad and I wouldn't hav it any other way.

Go Dawgs!

Go Dawgs!

1. Don- just like in 3-AAAAA, everyone has down years.
2. Stick- Georgia will win the SEC east in football.
3. Basketball- Georgia will have a new head coach next year.

4. Georgia-

I will greatly miss the talent and character of Allen, Moreno, and Stafford. Not once have I ever criticized these or any other players for their personal decision to go pro. Taking favor of one over another is not criticism. They did all they could for the program and represented the school in a way I hope all of our athletes do.

However, talking to people from within the football program, Mr. Jones played a majority of this year out of necessity. His attitude on and off the field was crippling at times and without the injury to Banks or the lack of depth at the position Reshad would have seen very little playing time. This isn't rec-leage ball where everyone should be patted on the back for showing up on time and always finishing their orange slice. There are thousands of young men in the state of Georgia who would die to have the opportunity to proudly represent the University of Georgia on the football field. Reshad, through his God given ability, was given that opportunity. His education, room and board were paid in full in exchange for his athletic ability and the expectation that he would represent the program and the University with pride and respect. There are a lot of moves and decisions taking place right now within the coaching staff. Most of the moves have a lot to do with makeing every one accountable and putting guys on the field who are willing to do things the right way physically, mentally, and emotionally. The Georgia "Rennie" way. Some are not taking kindly to this new direction and attitude and Ladies and Gentleman, Mr. Jones' decision to leave school might just be a direct result of one who was not willing to go "all-in."

I will accept losing games because we were not as good as they were or they just played better on a given day. But I will be damned if I will not express my opinion about someone who was given an extaordinary opportunity and squanders it for himself as well as others because he has a personal agenda that embarrasses himself, his teammates, and our University.

Good riddance Mr. Jones.

God Bless the United States of America and Go Dawgs!

Rick,

Bullshit - utter bullshit. Unconditional love doesn't include throwing players under the bus. Which is exactly what you guys have done. Your comments may have been out of frustration, but there were classless, irresponsible, and lame.

Patrick,

If you don't like my comment, then delete it. Last time I checked it was your blog. And if you don't like comments that disagree with your opinion, then close the blog to only menbers you approve of. As a fellow UGA grad, season ticket holder, and blogger I assumed a different opinion would be welcome & up for debate. It certainly is on my blog. That's the antithesis of being a "Disney Dawg" friend.

And don't confuse my willingness to defend our players as having my head in the sand. Apparently you haven't been reading my blog. I've taken our coaching staff to task MANY times, but I (and most other Dawg fans) draw the line at criticising & ridiculing 18-22 kids who play for Georgia or decide to make a life decision that upsets you. It is, if not worse, than the douchebags who boo in the stands on Saturdays.

If you don't like the fact that I disagree with you & had the gumption to call you out on what you did, then delete the comments. Simple as that. I had no idea this was a Disney Dawg Blog where only positive comments were welcome. My bad for assuming you all were big boys who can defend what you allow to come flying out of your mouths.

GO DAWGS INDEED!

Slic Ric said...

Ally the only person who has been "thrown under the bus" is Reshad. I know you said we don't know these players very well and that's true (although there are a few I know pretty well). That being said, Mr. Holland does have connections inside the program and he's not usually one to spread bullshit. I believe the views he expressed about Reshad to be accurate based on the pertinent information he has received from sources close to the situation. If the things he says are true and I fully believe they are (because he's about as Disney Dawg as they come) then I too say good riddance Reshad and don't let the door hit you in the ass.

Rick,

I appreciate your claim on the accuracy of his statements, but that's really not the point. WHether they're true or not is irrelevant. Its still a disparagement upon the character of a kid who played ball for a team we love. And lte's be honest, k? Those statements weren't in reference to Reshad's supposed character flaws - they were made & said to bash a player for leaving school early. Plain & simple.

And while we're being honest, Reshad isn't the only player that was bashed here. You posted a pic of Matt without an explanation with a pretty rude caption. Then you said some negative things about Matt. Then there was reference about another player (possibly Knowshon?) getting into a fight downtown days before the yech game. At least you guys were consistent - I'll give you that.

Look, I suppose we're going to have to agree to disagree. I just think its a sad day when Dawg fans lower themselves to the level of yech & floriduh fans in throwing KIDS under the bus. The very kids we cheer for on Saturdays and passed on campus during the week. Its a shame, its dirty, its lame, and you shouldn't do it. Period.

But thanks for the discussion and the respect - I appreciate that from you. Wish I could say the same for Patrick.

Go Dawgs!

Oh, what an interesting turn of events.... Reshad has changed his mind apparently and will remain a Dawg. He's not going pro sccording to TotalUga.com

This is getting out of hand. Apparently some people are very sensative and things are being blown way out of proportion. Hell, some people are just making things up now. I'm not even sure how we got to this point. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I happen to agree with Holland on this subject. I didn't have a problem with the Stafford pic but I can see how some people may have a problem with it, particularly the title of that post. I did a series of posts honoring Moreno and Stafford plus I wished Asher well in his departure so I believe I have done nothing wrong. I firmly stand by my actions and I'll just leave it at that.

PMac said...

Reshad might as well leave at this point. I'll be commenting shortly regarding this whole debacle.

Ally,

We all respect your opinion here and I hope you continue to comment. That being said, I'm not going to go and delete your comments because I don't agree with them. Unlike other blogs, OIA isn't going to delete comments, turn off commenting, or ban others from commenting when things go sour. Now like I said earlier, if you don't feel like the content here goes along with what you believe in, then there are plenty of other Disney Dawg blogs out there that can be read. This just isn't going to be one of them. As I see it, this blog is about as far from being one of those sites as it comes. So, I don't see how you can call it that. Just reading the comments and latest posts should tell you everything you need to know about the guys posting here. When things are frustrating and times are tough, expect us to bitch about it. When things are good and UGA is winning, expect us to be right at the front of the line. That's just how it's gonna be. It may not be the right way to go about things, but it has gone on since this blog was started.

Let me address the Stafford post since I was the one who put it up. I've held onto that picture for over a year now. With our friend no longer a student athlete, I went ahead and posted it. You can take the caption for what it's worth, maybe I meant it, maybe not. Maybe the title upset you, but what class act do you know flicks off a girl? I'm sure he was playing around and I find the picture funny and not a big deal. I wish Stafford all the best and look forward to seeing him in the League.

No one bashed Asher Allen on this blog. I hate to see him leave the team, but if he feels he can cut it, then good luck. I haven't seen anyone bash Knowshon on here either. I don't know why you would anyways. I didn't see his name mentioned in the comment regarding the fight before the Tech game. And last but not least, Reshad Jones.

Yes, Mr. Jones has been quite ridiculed on this blog today. You can look at it from both sides and see both party's point. I happen to side with JJH4 and Rick on this. I mean read the quote from his press conference today: "I'm proud to be a Bulldog now," he said. "I'm ready to work." Oh, so you weren't ready these last few years? You mean you half assed it this whole time? That's not the Georgia way. He can leave for all I care (frustration showing).

To end things, I don't see us as throwing people under the bus. We throw Willie under quite a bit, but who doesn't? We vent, we share our thoughts, and if you don't like it, let us know and I'm sure one of will share an explanation.
