Region 2-AA Quarterfinals

APPLING CO. PIRATES (19-7; 10-7)
vs.
BENEDICTINE CADETS (15-8; 10-6)

Thursday- Approx. 8:34- Nahunta, GA- BCSN

Whats at stake: Winner clinches a birth in the state playoffs and advances to play Long Co. in the region semi-finals. Loser is eliminated from the playoffs.

Previous Meetings:
Jan. 13: Appling 51-49 (OT)
Feb. 7: BC 47-43

Last time out:
Appling: Defeated Pierce Co. 81-57 in the 1st Round of the Region Tournament.
BC: Defeated Windsor Forest 68-64 in the regular season finale.

Projected Starting Lineups:

APPLING:
1 Wendel Williams (SR- 5'11- two time 2-AA Player of the Year)
23 Arthur Williams (JR- 6'3- teams 2nd leading scorer)
24 Justin Robinson (SR- 6'0)
34 Adrian Spellman (SR- 6'8)
44 Chris Paulk (SR- 6'8)

BC:
20 Joey Friess (JR- 5'10- leads team in APG)
24 Arik Brown (SO- 5'11)
30 Dennis Green (SR- 6'0)
34 Jabri Bryan (JR- 6'1- 18 ppg and 11 rpg)
44 Alex Hunt (JR- 6'3) OR 52 Daniel Coursey (JR- 6'9)

* Both teams are pretty evenly matched as their records, previous meetings, and the region standings indicate. Appling did not lose a non-region game while BC went 4-1 against fellow Savannah schools.

Appling has a height advantage down low but everything runs through W. Williams. The best shooter in the region, Williams also has the ablity to take it to the basket and finish. A. Williams is a very capable scorer as well and led the Pirates in scoring the last time these two teams met. Appling is looking to return to the State Playoffs a year after making the Sweet 16 and finishing 26-3.

Jabri Bryan leads the Cadets in scoring and rebounding. Bryan's ppg have decreased in the past month due in part to other Cadets' ppg increasing. Dennis Green led the Cadets with 15 points in the win over Windsor and has consistently been in double digits the last couple of weeks. Joey Friess has started every game at PG and has been the defensive leader. The late season emergence of Soph. Timmy Gaveau has given the Cadets a boost at the Guard position. BC is looking to qualify for the State Playoffs for the 1st time since 1992.
