Georgia Poll

I believe Georgia is falling short of expectations this year because of 3 reasons. 3) Lack of leadership after the graduation of Kelbel Johnson and Biggest of Big Dawgs Velasco. 2) Injuries. Lose your top lineman on both sides of the ball and your going to play hell. 1) No identity on offense. Are we a run first throw second offense? Is it the other way around? Do we want to spread the field or keep it Pro style and work more play action? Is it Stafford or Moreno? Screens or Fades? I put this on Bobo and being too complicated.

Saw this poll on another web site.
If only one were to leave, who would you most prefer not to be at Georgia next year?

A. Knowshon Moreno
B. Mark Richt
C. Matthew Stafford

Pretty easy choice for me.

*And for all the Georgia people crying about how the GA-FLA game should be moved because its not fair, PWD has an opinion: "If we leave Jacksonville, it's because we're chicken shit, cowards, and we let the Gators run us out of the state. That is completely unacceptable to me."

easy answer. C.

Definitely Stafford.

Nothing against the guy, of course.

Depends on how good A. Murray looks.

Anybody think Knowshon is taking himself out of the game more often to avoid possible injury?

Idiots, all of you. Have you seen Joe Cox. If Gray starts fine but with Cox running the show we are screwed. We got runningbacks to fill in for Moreno (they won't be as good but running behind an improved offensive line next year should help). Plus I don't want a guy whose going to take himself out at critical junctures in the game like he does. I've read that Knowshon does it to "keep a good rotation" and not because he's tired. Well if you're not tired and you're the superstar don't come out, especially in the redzone. You don't see Stafford drive the team down the field and say "hey Cox you take a couple of plays." I will admit he hasn't exactly lived up to expectations. but mark my words, if he does go pro, at this point next year, we will be wishing he had stayed.

Ric, I've seen you come around on Caleb King.

But I've got to agree with Swarz here.

To me Stafford + King/Samuel > Cox/Gray + Moreno.

I haven't come around on him yet but our offensive line next year "should be" opening up holes big enough for anybody to run through. That is unless we suffer some more setbacks and are forced to work with young, rebuilt line for the 6th time in CMR's 8 years.

Good point, Mr. Swarz. I was thinking more in terms of this year's O-line than a potentially much better one next year.

That makes it more debatable, but I still think people are discounting just how special Moreno really is.

I'll have to think about this one a little bit more.

Slic Ric said...

I'm not discounting how special he is at all. He was the key to our resurgence last year. He definitely makes Stafford and the line better. He gets positive yards when there are none to be had. He's got all the energy in the world and I love his enthusiasm. That being said, primetime, game changing players don't take themselves out at pivotal points in the game just to "keep a good rotation." I think Schiv brought up an excellent point to that I have seen speculated on by various bloggers, venters, and writers. I hope it's not true but it's certainly plausible.

In my opinion Moreno is the third greatest player in Georgia history. What he has done with 2 below average offensive lines is unreal. And you can't measure the energy and attitude he brings on and off the field. Just like everybody at Florida looks to and feeds off Tebow, the same goes for Moreno. Tebow grew up dreaming of winning a National Championship for Florida, while Stafford grew up envisioning Super Bowls with the Cowboys. Nothing wrong with that but a reason why the passion and leadersip isn't there with Stafford.

Having Stafford and Moreno is a major reason why the offense has no identity. Trying to make both happy every game is not possible in the SEC. If Moreno comes back without Stafford you know who you are and have the best RB in the country. Stafford is an unbelievable talent and will make a lot of money. But just like Waurffel's(sp) game didn't translate to the NFL, I don't know if Stafford's ever has or will be condusive for the college game. Joe Cox is Georgia's version of Tee Martin. He can feed it to Moreno just as good as anyone else in the country and 4 years in the system will prevent many of the mistakes that Stafford has made. And don't forget he was an Elite 11QB. He is not Joe T.

I think Stafford is a great talent and person, but not one of the top 5 QB's in school history. I take Moreno like I would take #34.

Given the lifespan of RBs in the NFL I feel like Moreno would be smart to go. He has been here for three years so you can't blame him all that much. Don't get me wrong I'd love to see him stay and if I could choose, I'd rather see Staff go and KM stay.

Realistically though, we are left with Stafford and King/Samuel or Cox and King/Samuel.

Great response JJH4. You make very valid points and ALMOST swayed my decision. A couple of things though. I know Cox is better than JT3 (hell I'm better than JT3)but I don't see Cox as a Tee Martin. I could be wrong because we haven't seen a whole lot of JC but I'll go out on a limb and say he's not. Maybe he will be a Matt Mauck or Matt Flynn type QB as a Senior, I don't know. You're right about Stafford in that he will be a better pro than college player. He's a gunslinger like Brett Farve. He can win or lose you the game. However, much like Farve, with him in the lineup I always feel like we have a chance to win. With JC in the lineup, not so much. Lastly the whole Stafford grew up dreaming of Super Bowls argument. While I think you are probably right, what makes you think Moreno didn't grow up dreaming of being in the league? Some people are more passionate than others. Greene and Shockley didn't display a lot of passion on the field but they were great leaders. I think it's CMR's fault to an extent. His QB's adopt his calm level-headed demeanor. Until evil Richt showed up a lot of people questioned CMR's passion and enthusiasm. He was still a great leader though, he just has a hard time firing people.

For what it's worth, Moreno always talks how he never even really watched football growing up. Dude just loves to play.

And jjh4 pretty much said everything I was too lazy to type out.* I know most of us here don't, but I get the sense a lot of people are starting to take Moreno for granted and forgetting about the sorry state of Georgia's run blocking most of the time.

*Except for the whole Stafford lacking passion thing. If anything, he tries to do too much.

And though this is an interesting thing to think about, let's remember neither guy is really the problem here. They're both pretty great.

I just don't think you give up on the best passing attack in the SEC if you have the choice. MoMass will be gone, but hopefully someone else will step up.

O-line play works both ways. A bad o-line can affect a QB just as much as an RB, so if you're going to give Moreno credit for running behind a patchwork line, you have to give Stafford credit for throwing behind one. Or at least having the nuts to stand back there and throw against one.

In all honesty, the good teams have shut down Knowshon this season. Playcalling has a lot to do with it, but next year, without Stafford, teams will be even more willing to commit 8 players to the run knowing that the guy behind center (Cox, Gray) hasn't played much. They have done it this year, they will continue to do it next year.

We have done a good job recruiting quality RBs, and have invested more time in the most important position on the field. It just takes longer to develop a quality QB than RB. 24 is a great talent, but I'm keeping Stafford.

Slic Ric said...

Larry I would have to agree with you in the fact that people are looking for someone to blame for this disappointing season. They are both great players. Hell Georgia's offense is pretty damn highly ranked in just about every category. Unfortunately the team pissed themselves in the 2 biggest games of the year. I personally blame coaching (except for CSS), or lack thereof, but that's a story for another day. Case in point, neither Stafford or Moreno should be used as a scapegoat.

very very easy answer, knowshon "lets take a break in the redzone" moreno

this team goes as stafford goes, he is the most important player on the team

staffdaddy is more important than knowgo moreno
