Time to Move On

but before that, Hale had some finial thoughts on game 1. He has to be one of the best beat writers in the country and he thinks the ship can be righted. However, his assesment of the coaching in Stillwater is not kind and I don't know that many others will disagree.

David Hale:

Georgia essentially went with just three wide receivers the entire game, which no doubt took its toll. Moore said he took 55 snaps alone, but more troubling was the reaction from his coach, who Moore said didn't realize that Brown, Wooten and Troupe had been absent.

I'm not going to pin this on Tony Ball without talking to him first, but if the coaches really weren't aware that they had only used three wide receivers, that is a serious problem.

Aaron White: "We have a lot more that we could throw out there. I feel like a lot of our weapons on offense weren't completely utilized to their potential."

But when it comes to illustrating just how bad the coaching was in this game, I think these two quotes sum it up best.

The first, from Coach A: "Earlier in the game (we) should have varied what (we) did and tried to open it up a little more. We wanted to establish the run and ball control and it started out well, and it just came down to execution and (we) didn’t do a very good job of spreading it out or spreading the field.”
The second, from Coach B: "I felt like (we) didn’t give (Samuel) enough chance to make plays. We really felt like he’s a playmaker and we wanted to give him 25-plus carries. I don’t know what we ended up with, but not enough.”

Now, you're probably reading those quotes and getting a little concerned that there's a clear rift in the philosophy of two of Georgia's offensive coaches. Rightly so. Clearly one guy favors featuring the run, while the other guy thinks that the reliance on the run prevented Georgia from opening things up and stretching the field.

To have two coaches disagree so fundamentally would be concerning. What's even more concerning, however, is that both of those quotes came from Mike Bobo following the game.

And on the cramping and IV's:
I got this email from a reader named John, who was sitting just two rows up in the stands: "It wasn't that hot! I had about 8 beers before the game and only drank one cup of sprite durning the game."

I like this team and I think a lot of what happened Saturday is defiantly correctable. The biggest correction that needs to be made is picking the correct QB. While I knew JC always had a bitch arm and that won't change, I'm willing to give the guy one more shot due to his flu-like symptoms (how convenient). If he looks like shit the first half Saturday (Carolina D > OSU D)though, and I have a feeling he will, changes need to be made immediately. I don't give a damn if it's Gray, Murray, or hell even Mettenberger at this point. This JT3 all over again and while we don't have the luxury of having Stafford waiting in the wings this time, we certainly don't have to stand by and take this bullshit.

Stick, I know you are frustrated, disgruntled and belittled, as am I. I supported Cox from day 1 but was extremely disappointed in his performance.
However, he had absolutley no help from anyone. 3 Drops, O-line was not what they were suppose to be and I don't care what anyone says, Samuel does not open his eyes when he runs. I'm not giving up on PJC yet. He just needs to play better and get some help.

It would also help if we went all black. Black Jerseys, Black Pants, Black Helmets! Don't you think?

I forgot Wooten and Brown were even on the team until after the game.

We miss Durham. We do.

What do want them to do, help him get stronger? Help him read coverages better? Help him get faster? Look Joe's a great guy and he will probably make a hell of a coach some day. I'm simply saying he may not be physically gifted enough to play QB in the SEC. He has a release you need a sundial to time, not a stopwatch. He stares down receivers and throws floaters which is gonna get somebody seriously hurt. He sure as hell can't scramble worth a damn. Any kind of blitz or pass rush and he's screwed. He's a f'n statue out there collecting bird shit. This can be a 10 win team no doubt but it all starts at QB and right now, when it comes to QB, we're f'd.

i agree with rick on his assement on Joe Cox. Let Murray or Logan Gray give it a shot. Even though it is irrelevant at this point; the play calling on the first drive was awesome. After that, it was shitty.

I know there are a lot of dumb comments on GSB following losses, but one guy just pointed out that we are 6-4 in our last 10 games.

Dang.

I saw that comment too. That is not good and certainly not acceptable but 2 of the losses came against teams that were ranked 1 and 2 at the end of last year in Florida and Bama. Tech is a rivalry game and shit happens. Then of course Saturday was just a big offensive clusterfuck. At least we are not losing to terrible teams (although I really wasn't very impressed with OSU).

I saw that comment too and that says a lot. We are basicaly winning every other game(even though the losses were to 4 very solid teams). I agree Cox doesn't bring a lot to the table and I don't know how he can get better, he just has to if Georgia is going to win. Gray deseves a shot against Carolina no matter how the game plays out.
But in regards to Murray, from everything that was said and done in the pre-season and not having a solidified running game I dont think he is ready. Im not anywhere near folding the tent and saying we take our lumps now to benefit us later. This defense can be damn good and possibly 9 of the starters will be gone next year. Long season and everything left to play for.

I'm going to wait until I see him play at least another game before I start declaring what Joe Cox is or isn't as a quarterback.

If he really was feeling much worse than he let on, well, then that should mean he's much sharper and more alert against South Carolina. But I'll be very concerned if he displays the same problems on Saturday.

Fifth-year senior or not, the guy was making his first real start in a huge road game while getting over an illness. Not making excuses for him, mind you; just giving him the benefit of the doubt since the coaches seemed totally confident he'd give Georgia the best chance to win this year.

And while I'm at it, I'll echo JJH4's sentiments that this team looks like it's a competent quarterback and average pass rusher away from being SEC-championship caliber.

The problems we saw Saturday should be easily correctable, and a defense that can handle Oklahoma State on the road is one that will keep you in every game.

thank God for Rennie Curran, too bad he is gone after this year
