10 years ago tonight, BC recorded one of its greatest victories of all time. The Cadets defeated Camden County 9-7 on a last minute field goal in Kingsland. The game turned out to be for the region championship.
Camden coah Jeff Herron says that loss motivates him to this day. Since the defeat Camden has a record of 123-11, no region losses, 6 trips to the semi-finals, and 3 state Championships. They are currently ranked #6 in the USA TODAY National Prep Poll.
The 2000 BC team cemented itself as one of the better teams in school history going 9-1 in the regular season and winning the region championship.

Still the greatest sports moment I've ever seen.
Ten years and two days later, Camden is playing on national television.
6. 1993 vs #6 Savannah High, 24-23. I wasn't there but have seen it on video. A very Camdenesque, come-out-of-nowhere victory, and Savannah High was very good back then. It signaled BC's comeback in the 90's.
What about that game at Effingham... Oh yeah, nice going Harry. Here's to you Mrs. Robinson...
I would have to put '93 Savannah High as #2. It was the Cadets first winning season in 4 years, capped off by an updet win over your undefeated archrival on a last-minute field goal.
The win against Camden was great, but I think it gets too much hype due to what became of Camden later in the decade. 2000 Camden was not the same program as 2010 Camden. It was Herron's first year, and he was just starting to get things rolling.
I also don't think '00 Glynn gets enough credit. That is the most exciting BC game I have ever witnessed.
My Top 5
1. '96 LaGrange
2. '93 Savannah High
3. '96 Northside
4. '00 Camden
5. '94 Statesboro
HM '00 Glynn Academy
I get that Lagrange was huge, and I'm not one to debate top 5's. However, Camden is number one on my list, and I think as time goes by it will eventually be the biggest win in Benedictine history.
St. Michael's undefeated basketball city champ season is in my top 5
I'd agree that '93 Savannah High should be up there and replace the South Effingham game. However, the reason the other 4 are more important in my eyes is because they had more on the line as far as winning championships and advancing. The Savannah High game did kick start a great run of success and the Glynn game was an unbelievable comeback. I just think the others held more importance at the their respective time.
The 2000 Camden team did lose 3 games that year. But BC was tremendously out manned and the talent discrepancy was ridiculous. But just as important as the upset was it leading to a region championship. Only the 2nd in 17 years.
Slic, yur gooood! At least he made up for it with the Shenanigans.
7. 1997 #7 BC vs #4 Bradwell, 23-7. Not a huge win in the grand scheme of things, but it sure felt big at the time, especially in front of 8,000+ fans. The remnants of the '96 team were enough to propel BC to the top of the polls, at least until Walter Simmons got hurt a few games later.
It was the last time two top-10 opponents squared off in Memorial Stadium and I doubt there has been a crowd as large since.
'93 Savannah High is probably #1 on my list for the sheer lunacy of how the game ended and what was at stake.
The game was for the sub-region and city championship. Most of us are not old enough to truly appreciate that game but not much was exepected back then of BC and Savannah High was 9-0 with the great Mede Lewis coming into the game. We ruined their perfect season AND won both championships in that game. Also, BC was down by two scores with like 3 minutes to go and got a blocked punt, an onside kick, a boneheaded incomplete pass attempt by Sav High (much like Camden 2000), an 18.1 yard completion on 4th and 18 (which was unheard of for a Jim Walsh coached team), and a 35 yard field goal as time expired to win by one. Needless to say, the odds were stacked GREATLY GREATLY against BC with no time left and all of those lightning in a bottle type plays happened in the closing minutes. It was unreal. Also, I've heard as the field goal went thru the uprights to win the game and the sideline came unglued, Walsh was getting his mindset ready for overtime. He thought the game was tied.
I particpated in Camden and Glynn 2000 and yet I shed no tears of joy at those games. I did as a 10 year old boy whose 16 year old brother was starting right guard at Sav High 1993.
I had forgotten the Sav High game was for the sub-region.
My Top 5 Revised:
1. '96 LaGrange
2. '00 Camden
3. '93 Sav High
4. '96 Northside
5. '94 Statesboro
Patrick, good call on '97 Bradwell. I had forgotten about that one.
